Our Story

Smashies Burgers started with a simple dream, a love of great food, and a leap of faith.

David and Rachel have always been big foodies. David dreamed of one day owning his own burger restaurant. One day, Rachel suggested something a little different - why not start with a food truck? That idea sparked the beginning of Smashies.

In 2024, David began the hunt for their very first food trailer. When they finally found one they could afford, they didn’t hesitate. They used their savings and took a leap of faith, buying the very first food trailer within reach.

For a few months, the truck sat quietly in their driveway while they figured out the next steps. Then life added a little extra motivation - David and Rachel found out they were expecting a baby. Suddenly, the pressure was on. It was time to stop waiting and go all in.

Together, they worked hard to kit out the truck and get everything ready for its first debut.

Launch day finally arrived in November 2024. Smashies Burgers was booked for its very first location at Orizen Tyres. But there was one small problem - Rachel was feeling far too unwell from pregnancy to join David for the big day.

Luckily, their neighbour Darren stepped in to help. David and Darren took the truck out that day, and from then on they returned every Tuesday.

Since that first service, Smashies has gone from strength to strength. With the love and support of the amazing communities they serve each week, Smashies quickly became a regular part of the local food scene.

Fast forward to 2026, and Smashies Burgers has now been nominated for Best Burger in New Zealand - something David and Rachel could only have dreamed of when that first truck was sitting in their driveway.

And the journey is just getting started.

They have even more exciting plans ahead for Smashies, and can’t wait to share them with you.
